396 lb hornless German blacksmith anvil – Description

Here we see the maker’s name and the weight stamped on this 396 lb hornless German blacksmith anvil . In the 19th century weight was in early German pounds (pfunds). As for performance this anvil rings and rebounds perfectly. In addition it retains some of it’s original factory crown. Of course all of this is outstanding. The front edge has damage including a major chipped out section. However half of the edge is good, making this an anvil ready to work as is. Call  Josh:   804 861 2788    Cell: 804 721 8100   email us  or contact us on Facebook

Back Side

In this view generations of blacksmiths chipped and damaged this back edge. Of course this indicates great hardness. In fact this is an easy weld repair. When properly weld repaired this would be an outstanding main shop anvil. Normally it  is used  in combination with a second double horn Stake anvil. If in practice welding reduced the edge hardness this might constitute an improvement. Please note the elegance of this form.   Call  Josh:   804 861 2788    Cell: 804 721 8100   email us  or contact us on Facebook
